I
want to let you know that not all the people in the Commonwealth
of Massachusetts are on the plaintiffs’ side. I want
you to know that I will be there supporting this cause. I
worked at DMR for two years, and I also did labor relations
work out at Waltham. I also know what group homes are like,
because I’ve been in them. My wife comes up here when
she can every Tuesday to help. I think you know her. She couldn’t
be here this afternoon. She understands. She also was a teacher
in the school system, and she had a student from here that
she tutored in the elementary school, and I know that she
would support me and you in this cause, this great cause.
I can only make one analogy. It’s probably not the best
analogy. But we saw this happening from 1933 to 1945. What’s
happening is like that because we know what the bottom line
is, which is that these group homes will not be able to take
care of these young people. You know that. It’s unfortunate
that JudyAnn Bigby summarily dismissed the Commissioner of
DMR a year ago, Mr. Gerry Morrison, the one that had been
there for years and years and years who has a heart as big
as the front of this building. Summarily dismissed him. He
was a Dukakis appointee, but he went through several administrations,
so we couldn’t say that they were getting rid of a Republican
because he wasn’t appointed by a Republican. But I can’t
help but think that there’s politics in this, and I
actually have to use the word that it stinks and we know who
the victims are. And I want you to know that I will be talking
to the Director here to get the particulars. And I’m
going to address a letter on my stationary to the Governor,
and I’m going to wait a few days, and then I’m
going to send a copy to the press, if I don’t get an
adequate response. So thank you very much.
